maxon’s dc motors and gearheads have been conquering Mars for over 15 years and are increasingly used onboard civil aircraft. “Without maxon's micro dc motors, the rover Opportunity would stop in its tracks on the red planet; the Dragon capsule, from rocket and spacecraft manufacturer Space X, would not be able to dock onto the International Space Station and the valves of the Boeing 787 ventilation system are also driven by maxon's motors." By presenting maxon motor ag with the Aerosuisse Award 2013, we honor the company's groundbreaking development and production of high-precision drive systems, which are of vital importance to the aerospace industry,” remarked Aerosuisse.

maxon motor joins a list of renowned names of Swiss winners, including Rega the Swiss air rescue service, the astronaut Claude Nicollier and the aircraft manufacturer Pilatus Aircraft Ltd. Eugen Elmiger, CEO of maxon, is delighted, “We are very proud of this commendation. Proud that, again and again, we can participate in large missions and adventures with our small drives and, in particular, we are proud of our employees that give their all every day to fulfill the ambitious requirements of the aerospace industry. First and foremost, the award belongs to them.”

Flying onward

maxon motor are involved with a wide range of aerospace projects. Designing and supplying dc motors, brushless dc motors and gearheads into aircraft, space rockets, satellites and space probes. The motors have to cope with wide temperature fluctuations, withstand constant vibration, repeated impacts, operate in high vacuum environments and have a very long life span. On top of the conditions the motor must operate the weight, efficiency and absolute reliability of the drive system are a key factor.
