A new pan and tilt camera customer were delighted with the results after using the maxon motor Configurator. The DCX drives product range, introduced last year, allows the customer to combine maxon DC motors with gearheads and encoders according to their specific requirements and it‘s all online. After choosing the motor and configuration the customer can then order online and expect delivery in just 2 weeks. You can enter the speed and torque parameters to determine the operating point of the gearhead in diagramatical form. You can select the voltage of the winding and see its speed and torque performance at different applied voltages.

‘Using the on-line facility speeded up the whole process and instead of days of researching the specifications and options available for each motor, it took less than an hour.‘ commented the Purchasing Manager, ‘ It gave lots of information on the options available and we were able to alter and refine our design as we went through, as well as producing the CAD drawings instantly‘.

The lead time is an incredible bonus for those prototyping and an additional benefit is the 3D modelling on offer, which provides instant drawings that can be integrated into your engineering design package, making the design process much more efficient. All the information is saved under your profile and can be revisited.

The Purchasing Manager continued “ I have never used anything like that before online, but I certainly will again. The delivery times were also drastically reduced so we could start the R&D earlier than anticipated.”

The configurable areas include:

• Shaft – standard or configurable length, diameter and flat(s), through hole

• Flange – pattern and thread size

• Commutation – precious metal or graphic brushes

• Winding – voltage, speed and torque

• Bearings – Sintered or preloaded ball bearings

• Electrical connection – cable length and exit point including connector

• Encoder –counts per turn, cable length, outlet angle.
