Dynamic and precise: The perfect OEM drive solution

maxon motor launches new CANopen positioning module.

As an addition to the digital positioning controllers of the EPOS family, maxon motor now presents an OEM version. The miniaturized EPOS2 Module 36/2 is designed to control brush DC motors as well as brushless EC motors. The well-priced plug-in module offers full motion control functionalities and suits single-axis and multiple-axis applications of miniature size. The EPOS2 Module 36/2 is the perfect drive solution for equipment designers.

One year ago, maxon motor launched its new generation EPOS2 digital positioning control unit and extended the existing series EPOS (Easy to use Positioning System) with products featuring Interpolated Position Mode (PVT) and USB interface. The latest member of the EPOS2 family is the EPOS2 Module 36/2. The high-performance plug-in module seamlessly integrates into customer applications. Now, the customer can fully focus on developing their own device – while being able to make use of maxon motor’s vast drive know-how.

One major advantage of the position controller is its outstanding flexibility. It can be operated in various operational modes; as position controller, but also as speed controller or as current controller. This characteristic permits the use of the module in a vast range of drive systems. Thus, the EPOS2 Module 36/2 can be applied wherever decentralized drive management is needed – be it in automation engineering or in mechatronics, such as, for example, laboratory equipment or robotics. With its size of only 54x28x9 mm and performance characteristics of maximum 36 Volt and 2 Ampere, the module is especially suitable as OEM component in miniature apparatus manufacturing.

As with all products of the EPOS series, this module has also been developed to command and control within a CANopen network. Needless to say, that it also can communicate via USB or RS232 interface. Additionally, step motors can be substituted by employing the featured «Step/Direction Mode» and the «Master Encoder Mode» transforms the drive into an electronic gearbox. Control via an analogue set value voltage can replace conventional servo amplifier setups.

maxon motor offers a comprehensive Starter Kit including an Evaluation Board for a single-axis system. Additionally available is a documentation set to assist OEMs in motherboard design for multiple-axis systems. Moreover, documentation and software is delivered with every shipment and is also available for download on the Internet via www.maxonmotor.com.
